Recycle Day

Recycle Day is this Saturday, May 1st starting at 8:00 a.m. If you are able to help, please make sure you are there a little before 8. Bring water, work gloves and a sweatshirt. Some hand sanitizer may be a good idea too. Not all the recyclable material is clean!

Don't forget that camp registrations are due Friday, April 30th. Please make sure they are handed in before the end of the day.

Check back for more details and updates!

Hey Vinita 4-H members! Don't forget we are helping with the recycling day on May 1st at the Kingman NRCS office. People start showing up at 8:00 a.m., so please be there by 7:45. It will be all morning, so you may want to bring something to snack on and some water. McDonald's is next door if you prefer.

May 22nd is a Multi-County Lamb Camp hosted at the Sedgwick County Fairgrounds. The cost is $30 and 4-Hers are to bring one of their lambs. This is a great opportunity to talk to a livestock judge and learn pointers on what to feed your lamb, how to work with it and how to show it. This is also something to put in your record book. It's a mutli-county event and a school.

More information was given to us at Monday's leaders meeting about the 529 Education Fund that the county is going to pilot. Parents, if your 4-Her participates in this at the food and livestock auctions, a 529 Plan needs to be set up prior to the fair. It takes $250 to start the account. This can be with whatever institution you prefer. If a 4-Her sells something in one of the auctions, half will go to the 4-Her and half will go to the 529 plan. A parents meeting is being scheduled for a future date. If you are interested in learning about this program, I would strongly suggest attending.

The county is going to focus more on record books this year. The due date is September 21st. It is earlier than the last several years. Please be working on them before the fair. If you have most of it filled out, it will be easy to finish up with placings, accomplishments and pictures.

That seems to be all for now. Please check back for more information!
